6th District of Iloilo?

Will there be a Sixth District of Iloilo in the near future?

For the longest time, it has been decades since the province of Iloilo added a new legislative district. Times have changed now and populations ever increasing. Based on the population projections for Philippine municipalities, Iloilo is indeed ripe for the addition on another district, the 6th district of Iloilo.

Based on the projection for the year 2022, the presidential election year, the map below shows how Iloilo province will be rearranged to accommodate a new district while satisfying the required 250,000 district population.

If this will be realized this move, adding another district to Iloilo, will create more representation for the province of Iloilo in the congress.

What do you think?

1921 Map of the Philippines

This a map of the Philippines in 1921 during the American Occupation. I adapted this map from the old Collier's 1921 Map of the Philippine Islands.

The major differences of this map from the modern (c 2017) Philippine map are as follows:

    • the modern-day Apayao, Kalinga, Ifugao and Benguet
    • Bontoc with Lepanto is now named Mountain Province
    • Amburayan is now part of Ilocos Sur
  • Isabela (with Quirino in it)
  • Metro Manila is associated with Rizal Province
  • Tayabas (now Aurora, Quezon and Marinduque)
  • Mindoro (now Occidental and Oriental Mindoro)
  • Ambos Camarines or the "Two Camarines" (now Camarines Norte and Sur)
  • Albay (with Catanduanes)
VISAYAS
  • Capiz (with Aklan)
  • Iloilo (with Guimaras)
  • Negros Oriental (with Siquijor)
  • Leyte as a whole (now Leyte and Southern Leyte)
  • Samar as a whole (now Northern Samar, Samar, and Eastern Samar)
MINDANAO
  • Misamis (now Camiguin, Misamis Occidental and Oriental)
  • Agusan (now Agusan del Norte, A. del Sur, and Bukidnon)
